Homemade Gluten Free BBQ Sauce

When I started cooking gluten free there were few prepared foods that were gluten free.  Jump forward over a decade later and now even big name companies such as General Mills are providing choices for those of us who cannot or choose not to eat gluten.

Still, there comes a certain measure of satisfaction in whipping up homemade recipes whether it be to avoid unwanted additives like preservatives or for the simple joy of cooking.  Each year as warmer weather begins to hint at spring and summer and the bite of winter begins to dwindle, the idea of BBQ signals the sound of bird calls and rays of sunshine.

For your next BBQ, skip the bottled sauce and give this recipe a spin on the grill.  It will make two full cups and you might find that it becomes a new favorite summer time staple at your house.

Here’s What You Will Need:

1 Can of Tomato Sauce (15 ounces)

1 C. Honey

1 tsp. Garlic Powder

2 tsp. Onion Powder

1/4 tsp. Allspice

1/4 tsp. Cloves

1/2 tsp. Salt

1/4 C. Molasses

1 T. Apple Cider Vinegar

In a saucepan whisk together all of the ingredients.  Bring the mixture to a boil and them immediately lower the temperature slightly and simmer the sauce.

Continue to simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, whisking occasionally.  The sauce will begin to boil down, thicken, and darken in color.

Serve either hot or allow the sauce to cool. Store any leftovers, should there be any, in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Ready for the grill!
